Morgan Lehman Gallery is pleased to announce a group exhibition titled, BATHERS. The exhibition will open July 10, 2013 and run through August 23rd, with an opening reception on Wednesday, July 10th, 6 - 8pm.
What does a bather look like in the age of camera phones, air conditioning, and rapid transcontinental flight? What if Picasso had had an Instagram feed? BATHERS, comprised of 13 young, contemporary painters and sculptors, dives into this revered and time honored modernist motif.
The artists invited for this exhibition are unafraid of the spectra of Modernism, and deal fluidly with many of its traditional subjects and styles. And similarly to the Modernists, many of them are friends and lovers, visiting each other's studios on a regular basis, exhibiting together, and engaging in a continued dialogue about each other's work, as well as the work of artists that came before them.
Featuring works by: Nina Chanel Abney, Gina Beavers, Melissa Brown, Benjamin Degen, Austin Eddy, Ted Gahl, Hope Gangloff, Jackie Gendel, Daniel Heidkamp, Shara Hughes, Ryan Kitson, Ryan Schneider, and Ruby Sky Stiler.
