About
Beck Lowry (b. 1980, New Haven, CT) is a mixed-media artist whose intricate, wall-hung abstractions explore themes of protection, labor, and lineage. Drawing on the language of the natural world and on canonical histories of craft, Lowry’s assemblages are made of carved plywood, woven with crochet thread, and layered with oil paint, fabric scraps, and other materials. The artist's process arises from a need to build, to exert physical energy through ritual, and to connect to a long history of makers—from ancient stone carvers and weavers to the carpenters, boat builders, and jewelers in their own family. Blending tradition and innovation, Lowry explores the evolving relationship between craftsmanship and narrative meaning and a curiosity about the power of objects to embody memory, resilience, and transformation.
